AirPods water eject sound: what to do if AirPods get wet

Remove AirPods from your ears, keep them out of the case until dry, follow Apple’s model guidance, and treat sound as a later comparison—not a drying guarantee.

AirPods contain batteries, microphones, mesh, and small acoustic openings. A sound session is not a substitute for drying, and the correct cleaning method depends on whether you have AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max.

SHORT ANSWER

Take wet AirPods out of your ears and keep them out of the charging case. Wipe the exterior with a soft dry lint-free cloth and follow Apple’s instructions for the exact model. Do not charge or play loud tones while wet. After complete drying, a gentle PulseClean AirPods cycle can help compare output, but it cannot remove internal liquid or repair damage.

KEY POINTS

  • Do not wear, charge, or return wet AirPods to the case.
  • Use Apple’s exact model-specific cleaning and drying guidance first.
  • After drying, compare left and right output at moderate volume; stop if one side crackles or remains much quieter.
01

Dry before you test

Remove the AirPods from your ears and case. Wipe external moisture with a soft dry lint-free cloth and allow complete drying for the period Apple specifies for the model and cleaning method. Keep moisture away from charging contacts and openings.

  1. Remove the AirPods from your ears and charging case.
  2. Dry the exterior without heat, compressed air, or sharp tools.
  3. Wait until the AirPods are completely dry.
  4. Reconnect and test at moderate volume.
02

What AirPods Clean can and cannot do

PulseClean Pro provides a gentler guided cycle for connected AirPods mesh. Use it only after drying and with the AirPods out of your ears. It may help you compare output or move moisture near an exposed mesh, but it cannot verify internal dryness or reverse liquid damage.

03

Check both sides after drying

Play the same short sample in each ear and check the Audio/Visual balance setting. If one AirPod remains quiet, inspect the speaker and microphone mesh for debris and follow Apple’s one-AirPod troubleshooting steps.

People also ask

Can I play a water-eject tone while wearing AirPods?

No. Remove AirPods from your ears before any cleaning or test tone, keep volume moderate, and stop if the sound is uncomfortable.

Can sound prove that AirPods are dry inside?

No. A sound test can compare output only; it cannot confirm internal dryness or battery safety.
