Water in the iPhone charging port: what to do
Disconnect the cable, let the connector dry with airflow, avoid rice and heat, and do not confuse a speaker water-eject sound with port drying.

IN THIS GUIDE
A liquid-detection alert protects the Lightning or USB-C connector and cable. It is a different problem from moisture near the speaker grille, so a water-eject sound cannot clear the warning or dry the port.
SHORT ANSWER
Unplug the cable immediately. Gently tap the iPhone against your hand with the connector facing down, then leave it in a dry area with airflow. Try again after at least 30 minutes; complete drying can take up to 24 hours. Do not use heat, compressed air, rice, cotton swabs, or paper towels in the connector.
KEY POINTS
- Disconnect the cable and do not reconnect it until both the iPhone and cable are dry.
- Use gravity and airflow; never put an object, heat, compressed air, or rice into the drying process.
- PulseClean Water Eject is for the speaker opening only and must not be presented as a charging-port fix.
Follow Apple’s liquid-alert steps
Unplug the cable from the iPhone and power adapter. Tap the iPhone gently against your hand with the connector facing down, then leave it in a dry area with airflow. Apple says to try again after at least 30 minutes and notes that full drying can take up to a day.
- Disconnect the cable and accessory immediately.
- Tap the iPhone gently with the connector facing down.
- Leave it in a dry area with airflow.
- Retry after at least 30 minutes and allow up to 24 hours if the alert remains.
Do not use a speaker-cleaner sound for the port
The charging connector is not the speaker. Sound played through the speaker cannot remove liquid from USB-C or Lightning pins and cannot prevent corrosion. Use PulseClean only for speaker-related symptoms after the phone is otherwise safe to operate.
Know when the alert needs service
If the alert appears with a dry phone and only one cable, the cable or accessory may be damaged. If it appears with every Apple cable after complete drying, or the phone still will not charge, contact Apple Support or arrange service.
People also ask
Can I override the liquid-detection alert?
Apple provides an emergency override, but charging a wet connector can cause corrosion and permanent damage. Use it only when the emergency risk outweighs the hardware risk.
Can PulseClean remove water from USB-C or Lightning?
No. PulseClean sound modes work through speakers and cannot dry a charging connector or internal parts.
