How to clean an iPhone speaker safely
Inspect the opening, use a clean dry soft-bristled brush, and know when distorted sound needs service instead of a louder tone.

Low or distorted iPhone sound can come from a blocked speaker opening, a case, audio settings, moisture, or hardware damage. Begin with the least invasive checks and keep liquids, sharp tools, and compressed air away from the opening.
KEY POINTS
- Unplug the iPhone, remove the case, and inspect the speaker in good light.
- If cleaning is needed, Apple recommends a small, clean, dry, soft-bristled brush for the speaker or receiver opening.
- Stop if the phone is wet, damaged, unusually hot, or still distorted after basic checks.
Prepare the iPhone
Disconnect cables, turn the iPhone off, and remove the case or screen protector if it blocks an opening. Do not insert pins, toothpicks, adhesive putty, or other objects into the grille. Do not spray cleaner into the phone or use compressed air.
Brush the opening gently
Hold the phone so loosened debris can move away from the opening. Use a small, clean, dry, soft-bristled brush and make light passes across the surface. Do not force bristles deeply into the grille.
- Inspect before and after each pass.
- Keep the brush dry and free of cleaning product.
- Stop if the mesh or opening appears damaged.
Test at a moderate level
After the phone is clean and completely dry, turn it on and test normal audio first. A PulseClean sound check can help you compare output, but a sound pattern cannot repair a torn speaker, corrosion, or another hardware fault. If crackling or low output remains, arrange service.
