How to connect your iPhone to a smart TV remote
Put both devices on the same network, approve the TV prompt, and check local-network permission on the iPhone.

Most phone remotes discover a television over the local network. Connection problems usually come from different Wi-Fi networks, missing local-network permission, guest-mode isolation, or an approval prompt waiting on the TV.
KEY POINTS
- Connect the iPhone and television to the same home network.
- Allow local-network access when iOS asks for permission.
- Keep the original remote nearby for the first approval prompt.
Prepare both devices
Turn on the television and connect it to the same router as the iPhone or iPad. A wired TV and wireless phone can still share one network, but a guest Wi-Fi network may block device discovery.
Discover and approve
Open RemoteOne and start device discovery. Select the television that matches the name shown in its settings. If a code or approval message appears on the TV, confirm it with the original remote.
- Accept the iOS local-network permission.
- Select the correct TV.
- Approve the pairing request on the television.
- Test navigation and volume separately.
Save the working connection
If the TV reconnects successfully, keep it on the same network and avoid changing its local address unnecessarily. Available buttons depend on the brand, model, software version, and the remote protocol exposed by the television.
