How to build a QR menu guests actually use

A useful QR menu starts with fast scanning, clear dish information, and a layout made for decisions at the table.

IN THIS GUIDE
  1. Start at the table
  2. Write for the moment of choice
  3. Keep the menu alive

A QR code is only the doorway. The experience behind it must load quickly, explain the food, and help a guest move from curiosity to a confident choice without asking the team to repeat basic details.

KEY POINTS

  • Make the QR code easy to find, scan, and understand before the guest picks up a phone.
  • Give every dish a clear name, price, description, and reliable ingredient information.
  • Design for mobile reading and keep the path from category to dish short.
01

Start at the table

Place the code where it can be scanned without moving glasses or tableware. Add a short instruction such as “Scan to open the menu” and test it with several phone cameras under the restaurant’s real lighting.

02

Write for the moment of choice

A guest usually wants to know what the dish is, how it is prepared, what it contains, and whether it fits a dietary need. Use specific, plain language. Keep decorative storytelling after the essential information, not before it.

  1. Use consistent category names.
  2. Show prices in the expected local format.
  3. State allergens only from verified restaurant data.
  4. Mark unavailable dishes immediately.
03

Keep the menu alive

A digital menu is valuable when the team can update it during service. Assign ownership for prices, availability, translations, and photos. Review the menu on a real phone after every major change, not only inside the management panel.
