  1. Check the device before buying
  2. Install on a stable connection
  3. Set the data line after arrival

Installing a travel eSIM before departure removes one task from arrival day. The exact screens vary by phone and carrier, but the preparation is straightforward when you separate installation from activation.

KEY POINTS

  • Confirm that the phone supports eSIM and is not locked to another carrier.
  • Install while you still have reliable Wi-Fi, then follow the plan instructions for activation timing.
  • Keep your primary SIM enabled only for the services you still need, especially calls and text messages.
01

Check the device before buying

Open the phone settings and confirm that an eSIM or mobile plan can be added. A supported model may still be carrier-locked, so check the lock status as well. If the phone has two active lines, review which combinations your model allows.

02

Install on a stable connection

Choose the destination and plan in Skyalo, then follow the installation instructions on Wi-Fi. Give the new line a recognisable label such as “Travel data” so it is easy to select later.

  1. Keep the QR code or installation screen available on another device if the flow requires it.
  2. Do not delete the eSIM after installation unless support tells you to do so.
  3. Read the plan start rule: some plans begin on installation, while others begin when they first connect to a supported network.
03

Set the data line after arrival

When the plan should become active, select the travel eSIM for mobile data and enable data roaming if the plan instructions require it. Leave automatic network selection on unless the plan lists a specific network. If the connection does not appear immediately, restart the phone once and recheck the selected data line.
