How to measure ring size at home with a ring you already own
Use the inner diameter, confirm screen scale, and repeat the measurement before treating it as a buying reference.

IN THIS GUIDE
A well-fitting ring can be a useful reference when you cannot visit a jeweller immediately. The key is to measure the inside of the ring, use a ring worn on the intended finger, and recognise that home measurements are approximate.
KEY POINTS
- Choose a round ring that fits the correct finger comfortably.
- Match the inner edge, not the outside diameter or band width.
- Repeat the measurement and confirm with a jeweller for expensive or irreversible decisions.
Choose the right reference ring
Use a ring that is not bent and sits comfortably at the widest part of the intended finger. A wide band can feel tighter than a thin band, so compare a similar style when possible.
Align the inner diameter
Place the ring flat on the screen and adjust the FitMyRing circle until it touches the inner edge all the way around. Look straight down to avoid parallax and keep the ring from tilting.
- Confirm the screen calibration prompt if shown.
- Measure twice after lifting and replacing the ring.
- Record the diameter and the nearest sizes in the relevant regional system.
Treat the result as a reference
Finger size changes with temperature, time of day, swelling, and knuckle shape. Ring makers can also use slightly different tolerances. Share the diameter with the jeweller or seller instead of relying only on a converted size label.
